The Ecuadorian currency is the American Dollar,
effective in Ecuador as of 1997.
Euro-checks, Euros, and other foreign currency are
accepted in Quito and Guayaquil.
It is advisable to bring travelers checks with you and
some US dollars in cash. Remember to bring smaller bills better because US 100
bills are hard to change due to falsifications.
In big cities you may purchase with credit cards such
as: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners.
WEATHER: In spite of Ecuador's location on the tropics, because of different altitudes, each region has its own climate and vegetation. Throughout the Coast and eastern jungle - the "Oriente" the weather is tropical, and in the Sierra or Andean Region, temperatures range from mild to cold. The rainy season is from October to May, with daily rain showers especially in the afternoons, although you may be surprised with very sunny days. The rest of the year there is almost no rainfall.
CLOTHING:
In Guayaquil, the Coast
and the Oriente, you will need summer clothing all year around; however, in Quito and the Sierra in
general, this is recommended only from May to August. For the rest of the year,
you will need warm clothing and a raincoat.

The tax rate on international flights from Quito airport is USD 40,80 to be paid directly at the airport. The tax rate on international flights from Guayaquil airport is USD 26.17 to be paid directly at the airport.
Train
There are two railroads in Ecuador very attractive for tourists.
Quito - Ibarra - San Lorenzo and Quito - Riobamba - Guayaquil / Guayaquil - Alausi, of which the latter is the most beautiful. Unfortunately, trains are old and slow and, due to their age, rails are frequently out of order and service is paralyzed for complete weeks and sometimes even months.
BUS
The most common urban and rural transportation means is the bus. Before using a bus, the tourist must seek precise information on schedules in order to avoid problems. There are many taxis or cabs in all cities and may be called by phone or on the streets. In case they don't have taximeters, you must bargain the price before you get on board.

Your passport and credit cards are required as a guarantee. Generally, you will only need your driver's license or permit. Prices are generally marked according to the model and the Company's category. IMPORTANT!
The best beverage is mineral water. Tap water should be boiled at least 10 minutes before drinking. Even if some beverages look tempting in markets, don't try them.
During the first days you should be careful with everything you eat. Be very careful and do not eat lettuce or strawberries, they are ameba carriers. Due to hygienic reasons, don't eat or drink in markets.
